How to become a pole dance instructor
In France, Article L212-1 of the Sports Code reserves paid teaching of a physical activity to holders of a qualification registered on the RNCP, with a declaration and a professional card. There is no French State diploma specific to pole dance. Many instructors train for several years, then take courses with schools or specialist certifications, such as the "Teaching pole dance" certification added to France's specific register in 2025, and complete them with a sports qualification. Before paying for a course, ask your local youth and sports service in writing which qualification gives the right to the card. In English-speaking countries, instructor courses and insurance rules vary, so check local requirements. The G-Learn trial is a first step to test the job; its certificate is not a diploma.
Pay
Salaries vary widely by region and status. Most instructors combine group classes, workshops and private lessons, often across several studios, as employees or freelancers.
The hard parts
- The job is physically demanding: shoulders and hamstrings are exposed, so you train all year round.
- Hours are unsocial: most classes take place in the evening and at weekends.
- The discipline still faces prejudice, which you need to handle calmly and professionally.

Frequently asked questions
Can you become a pole dance instructor at 40?
Yes, many instructors start late. What matters is several years of regular practice, good physical condition and a qualification that allows paid teaching.
Do you need a qualification to teach pole dance?
In France, paid teaching requires a recognised qualification and a professional card under the Sports Code. There is no State diploma specific to pole, so check with the youth and sports service.
Is pole dance recognised as a sport?
Yes. According to a survey published in 2025, it has been recognised in France as a sporting and artistic discipline since 2016, and the French Dance Federation has coordinated it since 2018. Internationally, the IPSF gained observer status with GAISF in 2017.
How much does a pole dance instructor earn?
There is no official pay scale. Income depends on the number of hours, the city and the status, employed or freelance.
What is included in the pole dance instructor course?
A 13-page PDF guide that covers the whole job, and a 3-level path of 13 five-minute lessons (beginner, intermediate, expert), each with a quick quiz, plus a certificate of completion per level.
Is the course available in English and French?
Yes. You choose English or French at checkout; the Complete Pack includes both languages.
How do I receive the course?
Tick the 18+ box, choose the English or French edition and pay by PayPal or card, without creating an account. Your download link appears on screen right after payment and is also emailed to your PayPal address.
Is the certificate an official qualification?
No. G-Learn certificates confirm you completed the course. They are not a state diploma or a licence to practise.
Can I get a refund?
Yes: if the course is not what you expected, ask within 14 days of purchase for a full refund. Prices start at €9.90.
