Why an intimacy coordinator stays essential in the age of AI
- You have to read discomfort on a face during the take, not on a screen.
- An actor's trust is earned one to one, before the shoot.
- Stopping a take and protecting someone takes a human being on set.
Is it for you? Five signs
- You listen without judging.
- You know the world of performance.
- You stay calm under pressure.
- You dare to say stop when needed.
- You like connecting people.

How to become an intimacy coordinator
In France, no degree is legally required, but the CQP Coordinateur·rice d'intimité, introduced in April 2025, has become the industry's reference certificate. To prepare for it, you need at least five years' work in film or television, so it is usually a second career for actors, dancers, stunt performers or stage managers. Since October 2025, the CST and the audiovisual sector's training body (CPNEF) have offered a certifying course and three open modules. The modules cover the fundamentals of coordination, risk prevention and the legal framework, and the history of on-screen representation. In English-speaking countries, coordinators also usually come from performance or stunt work and train through specialist programmes. The G-Learn trial is a first step to discover the job; its certificate is not a qualification.
Pay
Pay varies widely by region and status. In France, most coordinators work as intermittent performing arts workers on fixed-term contracts paid by the day or week, depending on the budget and the length of the job. Newcomers often start alongside an experienced coordinator while they build a network of productions.
The hard parts
- Shooting days are long and schedules often change at the last minute. You must stay available and focused from the start to the end of the sequence.
- You sometimes have to stand firm with a director or a rushed production without damaging the relationship. Your role is to offer solutions, not to block the shoot.
- What people confide in you and the awkward situations you handle take an emotional toll. Knowing when to refer someone to a support line or a professional is part of the job.

Frequently asked questions
Can you become an intimacy coordinator at 40?
Yes, it is actually common. The French certificate requires at least five years in film or television, so most coordinators come to it after a first career as an actor, crew member or choreographer.
Do you need a qualification to be an intimacy coordinator?
There is no legal requirement in France. The CQP certificate created in 2025 is, however, the reference that productions look for.
How many intimacy coordinators are there in France?
Very few. The French National Assembly's inquiry, presented in April 2025, counted five working coordinators. Since January 2025 the job has been on France compétences' list of emerging occupations.
What is included in the intimacy coordinator course?
A 13-page PDF guide that covers the whole job, and a 3-level path of 13 five-minute lessons (beginner, intermediate, expert), each with a quick quiz, plus a certificate of completion per level.
Is the course available in English and French?
Yes. You choose English or French at checkout; the Complete Pack includes both languages.

Is the certificate an official qualification?
No. G-Learn certificates confirm you completed the course. They are not a state diploma or a licence to practise.
Can I get a refund?
Yes: if the course is not what you expected, ask within 14 days of purchase for a full refund. Prices start at €9.90.
