How to become a financial auditor
In France, financial auditors usually hold a master's-level degree: the DSCG, a master's in accounting, control and audit (CCA), a business school or sometimes an engineering school. Firms hire assistants who become seniors after two to three years, then managers. Signing a statutory audit opinion requires the regulated title of commissaire aux comptes: the chartered accountancy diploma after a three-year traineeship, or a dedicated aptitude certificate, then registration with the H2A. Career changers can take the DCG and DSCG on work-study or by distance learning, and a background in bookkeeping or management control is a real asset. The G-Learn test-drive lets you explore risks, evidence, fraud and the audit report in a few hours. It is a first step to find out whether the job suits you: the G-Learn certificate is not a qualification.
Pay
Pay varies widely by region and status: the size of the firm, a big network or a mid-tier practice, Paris or the regions, and fast progression from assistant to senior and manager.
The hard parts
- Busy season, from January to April, means long weeks and frequent travel to clients. You must keep up the pace without letting the file quality slip.
- You have to ask a company director awkward questions and stand firm when evidence is missing. Professional scepticism can be learned, but it takes composure.
- The target level of study is high, and signing audit opinions takes years of training and traineeship. The early years also involve a lot of groundwork.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a financial auditor and a statutory auditor?
The auditor does the audit work as part of a team. In France, the commissaire aux comptes is the regulated profession, registered with the H2A, that signs the legal opinion. Many auditors become statutory auditors after qualifying as chartered accountants, but you can build an audit career without it.
Is an auditor the same as a chartered accountant?
No. The accountant prepares or reviews the accounts and gives advice. The auditor checks them, and may never audit accounts they prepared. That is the independence rule: the two jobs meet, but their roles never mix on the same client.
Will AI replace auditors?
It already analyses every entry and flags anomalies. But judgement, doubting an answer and responsibility for the opinion remain human. The work is shifting towards checking data, sorting alerts and talking with the client.
What is included in the financial auditor course?
A 13-page PDF guide that covers the whole job, and a 3-level path of 13 five-minute lessons (beginner, intermediate, expert), each with a quick quiz, plus a certificate of completion per level.
Is the course available in English and French?
Yes. You choose English or French at checkout; the Complete Pack includes both languages.
How do I receive the course?
Immediately after payment you receive a download link by email, with your invoice. The files are A4 PDFs you can read on any device or print.
Is the certificate an official qualification?
No. G-Learn certificates confirm you completed the course. They are not a state diploma or a licence to practise.
Can I get a refund?
Yes: if the course is not what you expected, ask within 14 days of purchase for a full refund. Prices start at €6.90.
