Human-essential

Why a corsetier stays essential in the age of AI

  1. A corset is fitted on a real body, at the fitting, to the millimetre.
  2. Feeling fabric pull or a bone pinch takes human hands and eyes.
  3. A client in the fitting room expects a discreet, reassuring person, not a screen.

Is it for you? Five signs

  • You enjoy precise, detailed work.
  • You stay patient on long tasks.
  • You know how to put people at ease.
  • You love beautiful fabrics.
  • You are discreet in every situation.

A typical day

How to become a corsetier

Most corsetiers start with dressmaking. In France, the CAP in fashion trades teaches garment basics; it takes two years, or less for adults in continuing education or an apprenticeship. A vocational baccalaureate or a professional certificate then takes skills further. Corsetry itself is learned mainly in workshops, through placements or short specialist courses. France's Meilleur Ouvrier de France contest has had a "lingerie, corsetry, bra" class. In English-speaking countries, short courses and apprenticeships with established makers are common routes. The G-Learn trial is a first step to test the job: its certificate is not a diploma. Allow one to two years in total to feel confident making a full corset, sewing every week. A first shadowing day in a corsetry workshop or with a theatre costumier helps you check that the pace and the precision suit you.

Pay

In France, workshop pay starts at a minimum of €1,878 gross a month at the first level of the clothing industry agreement (rates from 1 July 2026) and exceeds €2,800 at technician levels. Self-employed makers' income depends on their prices and billable hours. A bespoke piece is priced from real hours, supplies and workshop overheads.

Frequently asked questions

Can you become a corsetier at 40?

Yes. Many corsetiers come from home sewing or another career. A dressmaking course for adults, followed by workshop placements, is a realistic way in. The job rewards patience and an eye for detail, which often grow with experience.

Do you need a qualification to be a corsetier?

No qualification is required to work for yourself. A sewing qualification is still very useful to get hired by a workshop and to master the basics. To work for yourself, the key steps are registering the business, getting insured and pricing properly.

How much does a corsetier earn?

In a French workshop, pay starts at the clothing industry minimum, about €1,878 gross a month at the first level in 2026. Self-employed, it depends on your prices and billable hours. A bespoke corset often takes dozens of hours, which is why careful pricing matters.

What is included in the corsetier & lingerie maker course?

A 13-page PDF guide that covers the whole job, and a 3-level path of 13 five-minute lessons (beginner, intermediate, expert), each with a quick quiz, plus a certificate of completion per level.

Is the course available in English and French?

Yes. You choose English or French at checkout; the Complete Pack includes both languages.

How do I receive the course?

Tick the 18+ box, choose the English or French edition and pay by PayPal or card, without creating an account. Your download link appears on screen right after payment and is also emailed to your PayPal address.

Is the certificate an official qualification?

No. G-Learn certificates confirm you completed the course. They are not a state diploma or a licence to practise.

Can I get a refund?

Yes: if the course is not what you expected, ask within 14 days of purchase for a full refund. Prices start at €9.90.
