Become a control panel wirer: test-drive the job before you switch careers
Read a schematic, prepare the wires, wire and check a de-energised cabinet: test-drive the trade step by step, before committing to proper training.
- 13 five-minute lessons
- 3 levels
- 13-page PDF guide
- English & French
- Certificate of completion
Why a control panel wirer stays essential in the age of AI
- Machines already prepare the wires, but fitting them in a dense cabinet remains human work.
- Every cabinet is different: you have to read the drawings, judge the space and spot the mistake.
- The de-energised check and responsibility for safe wiring cannot be handed to software.
Is it for you? Five signs
- You like working with your hands.
- You are precise and methodical.
- You enjoy reading drawings.
- You stay focused for long periods.
- You take safety rules seriously.

A typical day
- 7:30 am: start in the workshop; the team leader hands over a cabinet and its drawing set.
- 7:45 am: read the drawings, check the revision, the sheets and the wiring list.
- 8:30 am: lay out the plate: DIN rails, trunking and devices fitted to the dimensions.
- 10:30 am: prepare the wires: size, colour, crimped ferrules, marks on both ends.
- 1:00 pm: wire one conductor at a time, torque, pull test, each wire ticked on the schematic.
- 3:30 pm: self-check the de-energised cabinet: visual check, back to the drawings, continuity.
- 4:30 pm: sign the sheet and hand the cabinet to the authorised test technician.
How to become a control panel wirer
In France, control panel wiring sits under ROME code H2602. The way in is a vocational CAP or baccalaureate in electrics, or the level-3 professional title for panel wirers and integrators, registered until 2031. Career changers often take this title as adult training with a work placement, or through an apprenticeship. An electrical authorisation is compulsory: the employer issues it after training under standard NF C 18-510. In English-speaking countries, panel wiring is usually learnt through college electrical courses and apprenticeships, under local electrical safety rules. Workshop wiring is done on de-energised cabinets; testing and commissioning are for authorised staff. The G-Learn trial is a first step to check the job suits you; its certificate is neither a qualification nor an electrical authorisation.
Pay
Pay varies with the region, the employer's collective agreement, the type of workshop (panel builder, integrator, machine maker) and experience. No figure is guaranteed. For a reliable figure, check the pay scale of the collective agreement that covers the employer you are aiming for, and look at dated job adverts near you.
The hard parts
- Rigour never lets up: a single swapped wire is enough to get a cabinet rejected at testing, and the whole team then loses time tracking it down.
- The work is repetitive and painstaking, standing or bent over the plate for hours, with tight deadlines when a machine has to ship to the customer.
- The electrical risk is real: France's INRS counts fewer than ten workers killed by electrocution each year, hence authorisation and de-energised work.

Frequently asked questions
Can I become a panel wirer at 40?
Yes. In France the panel wirer title is offered as adult training, and the rigour gained in another hands-on or technical job is a real asset. An observation day with a panel builder lets you check, before committing, that painstaking workshop work suits you.
Do I need an electrical authorisation?
Yes. In France the employer issues it after NF C 18-510 training, at a level that depends on the post. Elsewhere, local electrical safety rules apply. In every country, a course alone is not enough: the right to work near electrical installations comes with your employer's authorisation and supervision.
Will AI replace panel wirers?
CAD software and machines already produce schematics and prepare wires, but fitting, connecting and checking every wire in a dense cabinet remains work for hands and judgement. A wirer who can read digital drawings and work alongside these tools remains in demand.
What is included in the control panel wirer course?
A 13-page PDF guide that covers the whole job, and a 3-level path of 13 five-minute lessons (beginner, intermediate, expert), each with a quick quiz, plus a certificate of completion per level.
Is the course available in English and French?
Yes. You choose English or French at checkout; the Complete Pack includes both languages.
How do I receive the course?
Immediately after payment you receive a download link by email, with your invoice. The files are A4 PDFs you can read on any device or print.
Is the certificate an official qualification?
No. G-Learn certificates confirm you completed the course. They are not a state diploma or a licence to practise.
Can I get a refund?
Yes: if the course is not what you expected, ask within 14 days of purchase for a full refund. Prices start at €6.90.
